Creative Nursery Ideas for Baby Boys

Jasmine Flournoy – September 12, 2024

Get ready to dive into some so-called budget-friendly ideas that we came up with for our son’s nursery! I’ve bravely gathered a list of wall decor items and DIY arts and crafts that claim to be as easy as pie. Each element is said to be thoughtfully designed with creativity and style. Join me as we venture into this thrilling quest to turn our child’s room into a magical Sea World of personality and practicality.

Under the SeA Theme

The theme we went with for our sons nursery was “Under the Sea” so we focused on looking for things the were baby sea animal related.

The lighthouse was purchased from a gift shop in St. Augustine, FL which is a famous lighthouse in that area known as, you guessed it, the St. Augustine Lighthouse. We originally used the lighthouse figure as decor in our office and thought it would go great in the nursery to support the theme.

The green turtle was a blank colorless outlined wooden piece that was purchased from Hobby Lobby. The piece was only $1.50. I had paint at home and handed painted the turtle myself.

Unsex Baby Crib

This was the exact crib that I had envisioned for the nursery. This crib was purchased from Target at what I felt was a great price. This crib was easy to set-up. The mattress is also from Target but is sold separately.

Plush Friends

These friendly sea creatures were purchased from Ikea. Ikea has an awesome area from kids with plenty of plush bears to choose from. It was so easy to find what we were looking for when it came to teddy bears that matched the “Under the Sea” theme for the nursery.

Sea Animal Wall Decor

The sea animals on the wall were purchased from Hobby Lobby. Some were 25 cents and some were 50 cents a piece. We used two-sided tape to stick the items to the wall.

The white letters that spell our sons name were also purchased at Hobby Lobby. These letters were about $1.50 a piece.

Children’s Rug

This rug was a great incorporation to the nursery and it comes in many different sizes. The size that I chose in the photo below is 3ft x 2ft . I wanted to go with a small rug for starters for the nursery and maybe overtime move to a larger rug when my son is at a more mobile stage. You will however need a rug gripper because the rug will slide without it.

Bargin Hopping

While taking a trip to Dollar Tree, I noticed they had several pieces that referenced sea-like figures such as these. We felt that the anchors and starfish would be a great feature to the theme. These items were only $1 a piece.
