My Trip to Chicago
We decided go to Chicago after I flew over the city one day when I missed a flight. When I was sitting in the plane and looked down and the City of Chicago. My mouth fell to the floor. I was in AW. I made up my mind right then and there that I was going to visit this city in person. Here, I discuss a few places we visited and restaurants where ate the famous Chicago dog and deep dish pizza.
The Bean
What exactly is the Bean and why is it there? The Bean (actual name Cloud Gate) is located in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The Bean was designed by British artist Anish Kapoor and constructed between 2004 – 2006. The structure is about 33-feet high and is made entirely of welded stainless steel. The nickname “The Bean” was given to the sculpture by local Chicagoans due to its curved shaped. Over the years the sculpture has become a major attraction in the downtown area of Chicago within the “Loop.”
Famous Deep Dish Pizza
One of the first things we did the day we came to town was try deep dish pizza for the first time. A friend of mine recommended Giordano for deep deep dish pizza and it did not disappoint. This “pie” was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend trying deep dish pizza at Giordano. We tried deep pizza at different restaurant a few days later, and it wasn’t as good as it was at Giordano. One of the things we didn’t know was long it was going to take for the pizza to cook. It took close to an hour to bake but it made since because it is considered a pie.
Garrett Popcorn Shop
We were told the Garrett Popcorn Shop was a pretty famous place to visit. They have been in business since 1949 and are well known for their famous family popcorn recipes. Right before you walk in the smell will just grab you and give you a big kiss. I could’ve bottled that delicious buttery popcorn smell. That was all the advertising they needed. Of course, the popcorn was awesome.
Lake Michigan Sunset Cruise
Here do I began? This was my favorite activity that we did while in Chicago. I would do this sunset cruise over and over again. This boat sailed us out into Lake Michigan where we got a beautiful look at the skyline as the sun began to set. The duration of the ride is about 90 minutes. I would 100% recommend that if you decide to take a fun trip to Chicago to give the Lake Michigan Sunset Cruise a try. One thing I would recommend is to bring a jacket because it will get cold.
Chicago Style Hotdog
I’m not a huge hotdog fan but the tour we participated in had a stop at this shop called Al’s #1. After the hotdog was handed to me, I took a deep breathe and took a bite and “oh my gosh.” This was hands down probably that best hotdog I’d ever had ever. This was also the first time I had ever had a beef hotdog. We liked it so much that we actually got more Chicago dogs the next day. When we got back to Atlanta, we even looked for a place here that sold Chicago style hotdogs, and believe it or not you can find Chicago styled hotdogs in Atlanta.
