Secret Ingredients for Healthy Hair

Healthy hair can be the one thing that will lift your mood into a good place. I have personally seen a persons mood completely go from 0 to 10 after they have walked out of a hair salon with a new hairdo. Your hair is a very important part of you. That area on the top of our heads can either make you cry or make you do cartwheels.

None of us have the “perfect hair” journey but one thing we can do is learn to love what IS our hair. Being African American, I was self-consciousness about my hair primarily when I was a little girl. Sometimes family members would say mean things about my hair. I actually had a close relative say to my face when I was twelve, “You have bad hair” and I could just died right where I stood.

When I became an adult I decided to go completely natural. No more relaxers! I have no regrets whatsoever. My hair just came alive on it’s own and I would get compliments from all over when my hair was in a cute curly fro.

My scalp tends to get pretty dry sometimes. I didn’t feel that some of the shampoos that I used helped at all. So I decided to do some research and I found out that aloe vera, and apple cider vinegar had anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce dry scalp. I decided to try my own home remedy and I can say that this has greatly helped my scalp health. Here, I’d like to share with you my personal hair mixture that I use to keep my hair healthy and strong.

What you’ll need:

  • Half of one aloe vera leaf
  • Honey
  • Powdered sage
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Filtered water

Heads up: If you’ve never opened an aloe vera leaf, one thing you will discover is how slimy it is on the inside. So have a hand towel on standby.

The first thing you will do is open the aloe vera leaf with a small knife. Scoop the aloe (the clear substance) out of the leaf into a blender. You will then add one (1) tablespoon of honey, one (1) cup of filtered water, one (1)table spoon of powdered sage and three (3) table spoons of apple cider vinegar into a blender. Lightly blend the mixture for about 5 to 10 seconds.

After the mixture has been blended. Gently massage onto the scalp and hair. After you’ve applied the mixture into your scalp and hair, apply a plastic disposable head cap over your head and allow the mixture to sit for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes gently wash the mixture out of the hair with warm water. The apple cider vinegar will leave a strong odor in the hair after the wash. I would advise after the mixture has been washed out to then repeat to wash, but with shampoo you have at home so the apple vinegar smell will dissipate.
