Boy Nurseries: Creative Nursery Ideas for Baby Boys

Get ready to dive into some budget-friendly ideas that we came up with for the perfect boy nursery ideas! Finding boy nursery ideas can be a fun and exciting journey. I have bravely gathered a list of wall decor items and DIY arts and crafts.

Each element is said to be thoughtfully designed with creativity and style. Join me as we venture into this thrilling quest to turn our child’s room into a magical Sea World of personality and practicality.

Decide on a Theme

The theme we went with for our sons nursery was “Under the Sea.” We focused on looking for things the were baby sea animal related.

The lighthouse was purchased from one of the many gift shops in St. Augustine, FL which is a famous lighthouse in that area known as, you guessed it, the St. Augustine Lighthouse. We originally used the lighthouse figure as decor in our office. I thought it would go great in the nursery to support the theme.

The green sea turtle was a blank colorless wooden cutout that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. The piece was only $3.99. I had paint at home and handed painted the turtle myself.

The octopus was a gift from a colleague after we told her the theme for the nursery. This little octopus is from Baby Einstein. It plays music and can say colors in three different languages (English, Spanish, French).

Sea Animal Bed Set

I absolutely love love love this blanket set. You can find this bed set on Amazon. My little guy is so snugged in the comforter you see below. This was perfect during the winter months. The skirt can be seen below the comforter.

Baby sized comforter

This crib set fit the “Under the Sea” theme perfectly. The blanket set came with four (4) piece items: stacker (where you will stack diapers), fitted sheet, crib skirt, and baby sized comforter.

The comforter itself is very soft and cozy. When my son was an infant he rarely sleeps without it. We would primarily lay he on top of th comforter and he would fall asleep pretty quickly. He would only sleep on soft blankets. If the mattress of blankets were hard, he would never sleep.

This comforter can make your baby hot during the warm nights. I would recommend primarily use this blanket if it actually cold.

As your little one grows, this will be the ideal “baby blanket” that your child will keep close to their heart.

Neutral Baby Crib

This Delta Children Skylar Crib was the exact crib that I had envisioned for the nursery. This crib was purchased from Target at what I felt was a great price. This crib was easy to set-up. The mattress is sold separately at Target.

As my sweet boy Popcorn (my cat) poses with this crib LOL have been very happy with this crib. Our son is at the age now where he moves a lot in his sleep. Even when he is awake, he likes play a little rough in this crib on his own.

Sometimes he will bump his head on the bars when he is being rough. When that happens, he literally has no reaction. The bars on the crib are flat and light, so they don’t hurt him what-so-ever.

Update: My son became strong enough to climb out of this at 19 months old FYI. I would suggest to switch out the crib right before age 2 if you can.

Sea Animal Wall Decor

The sea animals on the wall were purchased from Hobby Lobby. Some of the sea animals were $1.29 and some were $1.00 a piece. We used two-sided tape to stick the items to the wall. The white letters to spell my sons name were about $1.99 from Hobby Lobby. If you want to get super creative, you can paint these letters.

Sea Anchors

The star fish and the anchors shown below were purchased from Dollar Tree. Each piece was $1.00.

Do Not Forget About “Dollar” Stores

These pieces were actually decorations for the 4th of July at Dollar Tree. They were the perfect decor that I needed for the nursery. Not only that, they were $1.00!!!

I was actually making a trip to Dollar Tree for decorations for the Baby Shower. There did have some great signage and cute mesh bag that I used for goody bags for the shower.

I would without a doubt recommend checking out dollar stores such as, Family Dollar or a Five Below. These stores are a treasure trove for home decor in general. What you cannot find at a fancy store, you can find here. Swim your way to super creative decor for a low price.

Neutral Dresser and Sea Theme Rug

I didn’t want traditional nursery furniture that blared “It’s a Boy,” because I envision my son growing into a space that evolves with him. Imagine my excitement when I discovered the perfect dresser—yes, you heard right, from Home Depot! This three-tier dresser comes with a diaper changing station on top. Although we won’t need the diaper station after my son is potter trained. I can picture the changing station transforming into a delightful area, where he can showcase his treasured toys as he grows up.

Plush Friends

These friendly sea creatures were purchased from Ikea. Ikea has an awesome area from kids with plenty of plush bears to choose from. It was so easy to find what we were looking for when it came to teddy bears that matched the “Under the Sea” theme for the nursery.

My son really loved the plush turtle when he was in the newborn stage. When he became mobile, he really interacted with the octopus. He would lift the tentacles and poke the eyes on the plush out of curiosity.
