St. Patricks Day

Yes, I know charcuterie boards are originally French and here, in America, St. Patricks Day is associated with Irish origins. I still wanted to create a beautiful dish to commemorate the day. This is one of those holidays that brings out the creativity in me. The levels of green you see all over the department stores, museums, etc can be rather beautiful. I thought I would be a cool idea to create a charcuterie board themed for St. Patricks Day this year.

When creating an idea for a charcuterie board, presentation is everything. Start off by deciding what type of board you want to present your food spread on. I prefer a wooden serving board when making a broad because wood just gives an “at home” feeling. A feeling of comfort. A wooden board just looks good in my opinion.

You will want to arrange your food spread in a way that is visually appealing and diverse.

When creating these boards, there is something called the 3333 or 333 rule. I’ve seen people suggest both of these. The rule suggest using three cheeses, three meats, and three starches such as bread or crackers. This can also include three items like fruits, olives or pickles.

I personally prefer to do my own thing when I create a board. I don’t necessarily completely throw out the 333/3333 rule but I don’t 100% follow it either. I like it throw in some non-traditional food items such as candy. Including a little side decor such as a decorative non-food item, like flowers or an item to represent the holiday, (little green hat in the above photo) is something I love to put in my boards to make it look more attractive and fun. In other words, express your creativity in your own way and don’t worry so much about the charcuterie board “rules.”

With this board, I wanted to incorporate about 70% of green and the rest of the board non-green just to balance the overwhelming of green, green, green. I wanted to do this by throwing in soft coloring with the walnuts, cheese and prosciutto. I also thought it would be cool to to make a rainbow of candy along with some accessories.

I also wanted to lean more on the healthy side for the charcuterie board. Yeah, I know the rainbow candy isn’t really healthy but it’s just that one part HA HA. Overall, the majority of this charcuterie board is pretty much on the healthy side. Happy St. Patricks Day eating, everyone!
