Discover Tybee Island, Georgia

One of the many beloved beaches on the coast of Georgia is Tybee Island. Located roughly 30 minutes from Savannah, Georgia, Tybee Island is one of those amazing coastal spots in Georgia that’s perfect for a road trip – it’s totally breathtaking!

If you’re not familiar with Georgia, you might not know about the beauty of Tybee Island. This vibrant island is not just popular; it boasts one of Georgia’s five iconic lighthouses. The famous lighthouse pictured above is called, you guessed it, the “Tybee Island Lighthouse” built in 1866.

The first time I came here was for a field class in college, where we were studying the different beach plants, and making observations of the beach ecosystem. If you’re like me and rarely ever see an actual beach town let alone drive through one, you’ll understand when I say that I was in AH when we were walking around the town of Tybee Island. Small beach towns remind me of a Disney Channel movie about a teenager that lives near the beach and surfs a lot. This little beach town is just a bit over four hours from Atlanta. If you’re thinking about hitting the road to Tybee Island, grab your camera and get ready for some seriously stunning views! This cute little beach town is full of charm, with tons of local shops and restaurants to check out.

This beach is fairly quiet due to it being a little distant from the City of Savannah. If you’re hungry, you will find a local favorite called The Crab Trap where you can get a gorgeous view of the water and sea oats. Sea Wolf is another local favorite. Sea Wolf is a very unique restaurant featured on an episode of Drivers, Dine Ins, and Dives. What makes Sea Wolf stand out is that they serve a mix of different foods, not just seafood.

If you want to be right on the water while dining, A -J’s Dockside Restaurant is the spot for you. Not only will you get a chance to be up close and personal on the water, but you will also get a taste of their oh-so-delicious seafood menu that have raving reviews. Making reservations is highly recommended as this place can get pretty packed primarily on the weekends.

Parking

Parking at the Tybee Island Beach is public and easy. You will have to pay a fee for parking. During the Summer months Tybee Island can become a vibrant place, and that’s when parking can get a little tight. Public transportation is readily available and of course ride shares.
