Morning sickness is a sickness that will completely immobilize you. If you’ve never been pregnant before, it feels like a bag of vomit just sitting and sitting under the breast area. There were times when I would just lay on the floor of the bathroom for comfort. I even walked around with a small trash and kept one next to my bed when I went to sleep.
I googled several remedies to try to ease the sickness but 90% of what I researched didn’t work. Ginger drinks didn’t work, herbal teas didn’t work, bone broth didn’t work, you name it, I tried it, didn’t do anything.
Here’s what did work for me:
- Sucking on a lemon or squeezing lemon juice from a lemon in water. Drinking water by itself made me sick to my stomach. Adding lemon juice helped me tremendously.
- Dr. Pepper: Now before my pregnancy I didn’t drink soda. One day I was craving it pretty bad. I went to a drive-thur and ordered Dr. Pepper and oh my goodness it did wonders for my nausea. I wouldn’t have thought in a million years that this drink would help my sickness so much. I shouldn’t have been too surprised because carbonated drinks are known to help reduce nausea.
- Eating Bread: Don’t ask me why but eating plain bread was the only food that didn’t make to feel bad. I found myself buying a lot of bread and just munching it down.
- Juce from Terra Kia Organics: This is a super fruit and veggie supplement powder blend. This powder blend is packed with prebiotic fiber. Mixing the powder with water is all you have to do, super easy. I would make this mixture each day I went into the office which was twice a week at the time. I wanted to avoid being sickly at work and this definitely helped me with that.
For my super health conscious mommas out there. If are like me, I tried to stay away from drinks that contained a lot of dye. After a while I caved. The Dr. Pepper helped so much with the morning sickness, that I gave in to the soda because it helped me not feel so ill.
If you are having a hard time trying to figure out what dye-free liquids to drink when you go out to restaurants, due to water making you fell super sick, (like me) or when grocery shopping. I’m here to help.

Below is a list of a few beverages that I discovered are dye-free, and some free of high-fructose corn. This list also includes drinks from grocery stores that you will enjoy.
Chick-fil-A
Now, I have heard that one should avoid certain teas such as black tea due to the caffeine. My mid-wife assured me that drinking caffeine while pregnant was okay. Just don’t drink like 50 cups of caffeine in one day. In other words, drink caffeine in moderation during your pregnancy. Beverages that are on the safe side at Chick-fil-A are:
- Plain Lemonade (made with real lemon juice, water and cane sugar. No dyes.)
- Teas (Seasonal teas are also available different times of the year)
- Sunjoy (half black tea half plain lemonade)
Wendys
Rumor has it is that Wendys lemonades don’t contain dye or high fructose corn syrup. During my first trimester I craved the regular baked potatoes from Wendys. It was easy to pick a beverage here.
- All-Natural Lemonade and other Lemonades
- Milk/Chocolate Milk
- Honest Kids Organic Juice
Grocery Store Drinks
The beverages mentioned below are items that can be purchased at various grocery stores. These beverages do not contain high fructose syrup and are dye free, and go great with lemon.
- Poppi (Probiotic carbonated that comes in many delicious flavors drink)
- San Pellegrino (Italian sparkling drink, taste like a real soda)
- Waterloo (Carbonated drink that comes in many flavors)
- Some Publix Teas and Lemonades (Dark teas may contain caramel coloring)
I hope this post helps moms-to-be reading this during pregnancy. This is a very hard time in your life that will beat your body to pieces, but soon it will be a memory. You got this!
